Missionaries Without Boundaries /  Nathan Lloyd-Jones – June 2013

This year has been so, so blessed. Looking back to our first year here humbles us so much when I see how far God has taken us. No matter how many times we doubted or failed to do things right, God still had grace on us and was faithful to fulfill His promises and bless us with so much more.

The first year we became missionaries we were tested on every side. We found out that the missionaries who we wanted to work with were leaving and we would be serving in their place in an area that I was not ready for and did not feel qualified to do. Our new generator broke down four times and had to be rebuilt the fourth time. Our new computer was struck by lighting. We went through seven printers. We found out that through miscommunication we owed 2,000 dollars that we didn’t have at the time. Two people we had been trying to help robbed our house and made off with about 3,000 dollars. We found out that we couldn’t have our baby vaginally and would have to have a c-section. All of this and more happened in our first year on the mission field.

This year has been completely different. Over the last few years we’d been saving for a low energy washer, the cost of which is about $900, but it seemed the money was always needed for something more urgent. This year a friend called and asked us if we wanted theirs and offered to send it out to us, along with a gas grill. Then we were called and offered free tickets to the states, not only for us but for my brother as well, who has been serving as an intern with us here. We’d been praying about support raising but felt like God wanted us to trust him. This month two different people called us and said they’d like to support us. We had a church bless us with the money to fix our shed roof, which was rotting and would not have held up much longer. We had a couple pay for all the students books for the entire year. And last week a pastor/missionary Scott Ledford called me and asked if I needed a boat? He brought it to me and paid for the expenses to do so. The value of that boat in our area is about 10,000 dollars.

The differences between our first year here and this year are amazing, but it doesn’t mean that we won’t have another year like our first. Through it all God has humbled us with His overwhelming mercy, grace, and faithfulness. We have learned a lot since our first year here, yes, but we are still no more deserving. We have been overwhelmed by the mercy and wisdom of God, realizing that the trials are for our growth and the blessings are for our faithfulness in the growth even though our faithfulness is a gift from HIM! Will we be tested more? YES! I’m sure of it. Hebrews 12:5 says, “Have you forgotten the encouraging words which God speaks to you as his children? “My child, pay attention when the Lord corrects you, and do not be discouraged when he rebukes you. Because the Lord corrects everyone he loves, and punishes everyone he accepts as a child.” If we were not tested I would be greatly afraid. Do I look forward to the testing? No! But I know it’s because he loves us, and that gives Rebecca and I peace.

We continue to work here with the conviction that God has called us here to do His work no matter the circumstances. We have been blessed so much this year but are still in need of more long term help. Please continue to pray and spread the word of the need we have here for a single person or even a family who can come down and work in the school with us.

We pray that the Lord is blessing you all and that you know just how thankful we are for all your prayer and support. We have been so very blessed and we pray that God would continue to show us wisdom and grace as we continue in His work. God bless you all very much and thank you.
